I see that e-mails within the "cruise" system cost $3.95 each. Does anyone know if you can use instant messaging or send e-mails via your own internet service provider's site while logged on the ship's internet service?

Sure! You still have to pay the per minute fee, plus whatever registration fee they charge (appr 9.99).
