Hi at all, i´m happy to find a board with so much information about the NCL ships.
I already booked a cruise on the NCL Norwegian Sun starting from Miami October the 27nd, there are some questions i couldn´t find answers in this great site - maybe you can help me?

We´re two guys from germany (27 and 31), it´ll be our first stay in the US and of course on a US cruise ship, too. Made some cruises in europe and the caribbean sea, but only on german ships.

-I´ve read there´s a disco on board. Some reviews told of so many "old aged" passengers that the disco/nightclub´s empty every evening. Is that true? And if so, will there be any possibility to amuse on the SUN after 11 pm?

-How much do i have to pay for a beer on the bar / in the disco? Do you know the brand?

-Does the majority of US passengers feel comfortable with foreign passengers or won´t we have much contact with native guests? (My spoken english is better then my written)

Sorry for so many questions - i´m shure there will be more till october...

Thanx!

Schools are in session in October, so yu will not find as many young adults with families aboard. But since it is Holloween week, there should be plenty of young singles aboard.

Around $5 for a beer, slightly more for non American premium brands, slightly cheaper for American brands. The price will be the same at the bars and casino. The Disco on the Sun is callled Dazzles. Earlier in the day, you might prefer the Windjammer's Bar immediatley behind Dazzles. It's more akin to an English pub.
I liked the Windjammer Bar better.

There will be Europeans amongst the crew that can speak German. You might even find other German passengers aboard too.

They DO have tap beer too! And don't forget they will charge you a 15% tip every time you get a drink. The lounges are all nice, Dazzles has the band 60280 and they're very good. Hot chicks too...

A friend of mine sailed on the Sun last year and had a great time. He and a friend of his had absolutely no trouble finding dance partners. He didn't stop raving about how much fun they had for weeks after his return. NCL has a good mix of age groups. There are plenty of brands of beer. They offer a drink of the day as well. They have the dive-in program, which is great if you like snorkeling/diving. We signed up for it on all 3 of our NCL cruises. I think you will find lots of people on board very interested in finding out about your home land. We met a wonderful couple from Germany on board one of our NCL cruises. She didn't like to speak English because she thought her English wasn't good enough. By the end of the cruise, I had her convinced to speak English. I had absolutely no trouble understanding her, she might have had a little trouble understanding me, but her husband would help out. They were truly fun, and we still keep in touch. By the way, depending on which islands you're visiting, you can find local beers for $1-$2/each. Best wishes and have a wonderful cruise!

Fine, what a lot of information :-)
I have no problem with people older than me on board (for some people with 31 i am an older one, too...) but if there would be only the older ones it´s very hard to amuse in the very late hours because of beeing nearly alone in the bars and disco. I´ve read that the newer/bigger ships attract more young/party-people, but the prices of the october cruises on the norwegian sun are just unbelievable...

Speaking english won´t be my problem (instead of writing it correct), i only was afraid of some preconceptions about the average cruise tourist on the big US Ships you read in some boards - wants to be alone, don´t want to talk with foreign people etc. but this bad postings you´ll find on everything - too many people dissatisfied with semself on our planet.

By the way: Including the flight, 2 days in NY and 1 day in Miami before the cruise i pay less than one week in the mediterenian sea in summer on a german ship. Then it´s no problem, if the beer price will be a few bucks more - to confirm another preconception, this time about german cruise passengers drinking beer the whole day and night :-)

Thanks again for the informations!
