The savings are not always genuine.
You lose your ability to recover all monies paid, when problems occur, such as: a prepaid land tour that doesn't take place because the ship changes a port of call. If your ship doesn't come into a port, you can find you have not only missed out on the land tour, but you cannot recover the prepaid cost. You lose twice. You will find you have no recourse for a refund. You now have only a computer to complain to.
It's wiser to establish a relationship with a local travel agency. Someone who has a vested interest in you enjoying your vacation. Your repeat business, is their business. An agent can advise you and stand with you, when problems occur.
