im planning a short cruise onboard the star virgo sailing out of singapore in novemeber. has anyone been on this cruise ship? can you give me a little info on it, ie food, entertainment, casino, excursions in penang and phuket? that would be great
the virgo is a lovely ship. star is known for their casinos so that one is big. you have several different restaurants to choose from so i am sure you will find something for your taste. entertainment should be first class. the restaurant and lounges are beautiful. the ship is colorful, typical for Star Cruises.
Penang is a beautiful colonial style city. maybe take a city tour, you don't necessarily need to do it with the shore excursion company onboard. Phuket has lots of different beaches. shore excursion onboard can tell you all about it.
i am not quite sure how the tipping system works on star cruises. check out the website or the brochure. if they do it like NCL then you won't have to tip, everything will be included, they will charge you $10 per day per person (for cabin stewards and restaurant staff) and service charge is automatically added to the bar cheques.
you can dispute the $10 if you think that they did not deserve it.
there might be some small surcharges on some of the restaurants, but certainly not all of them.
would love to hear how it was afterwards. planetphips@yahoo.de
I live and work in thailand, but i am from Switzerland.
Hi, There is definitely no tipping on any of the Star cruisships. We were on the smaller Gemini in July of this year. Tipping is not allowed anywhere on the ship. Mummsie
