Going on the Pearl in January...but might not get to this deck.....in fact, my wife says NO WAY....but then it's a big ship and........and I don't mind being topless:-)
We have traveled the Pearl twice this year ...on Feb 2, 2007 .... 9-Day So Caribbean and to Alaska May 20th, 2007. We are Platinum Latitudes members the highest available and we know the ship very well. We will be back on the NCL Pearl Sept 24th, 2007 for our third cruise on the Pearl in 2007.
There is NO FREESTYLE DECK for nude or topless sunbathing. There is a private sundeck exclusively for the Garden Villa passengers up on Deck 14...not open to general passengers.
The idea of an NCL sponsored topless sun bathing deck is a myth. It does not exist. You will not find any mention of optional topless sunbathing on any NCL information within their website.
I have seen total nudity sunbathing on balcony room decks. But not decks open to the public.
So you shouldn't get to excited over the thought of topless sun decks on the Pearl. Your better off trying to find a nude beach somewhere.
On any sun deck you will find women topless, but lying on their stomachs not exposing any body parts.
There is NO adults only sunning area on the NCL Pearl as posted here.
Deck 15, forward, accessible only by a single, outdoor stairway. It's a small area, and very private. (I also can't imagine it getting much use in Alaska in May. )
Please know, everyone, that I never answer a question without researching it first.
I will follow up on Deck 15 and report back here with the real story. There is a Deck 15 shown on deck layout...Freestyle Deck.....will report back here after return of Sept 28th cruise. That will be the first place I visit on Tuesday, open sea day.....full sun......should be interesting to see what goes.
Sounds like I may have to stand corrected, but this post certainly requires a first hand look.
The obvious question is why would they give a deck the name of "freestyle"? The name seems to imply that this deck is different than the others in some way.
Do you mean to collect the tops and bring them back?
Not sure if Mary will even touch this hot topic.
But I will check it out.......after Bliss Ultra Lounge, anything is possible on the Pearl. Don't know why I didn't discover this deck earlier especially on the 9 day Southern Caribbean trip in Feb 2007.
I think Lisa P is probably correct,(she's a cruise guru) but want to see for myself.
Just to add a little to the probability of the freestyle deck. I can personally confirm an adults only (top optional) deck on Celebrity Galaxy. It is the top forward sun deck. It was lightly used but tops were off (male and female) by about 10 or so folks at a time.
There is an area on Deck 15 named Freestyle Deck....
There is a walkway from deck 14 up to the Freestyle Deck.
There is free access for passengers of all ages...no gates....there is NO signage stating "adults only"...or "clothing optionable area".
On a nice sunny day like this past Wednesday, there were no passengers using this area for topless sunbathing...either men or women.
In fact the area was used on this past trip for an observation deck by every passenger I saw there, during the 4 day adventure.
The Freestyle Deck is small, and is the same deck that you will find the mast of the ship, radar towers and flag towers.
To us, the Freestyle Deck was just another deck at the highest elevation of the ship, open to passengers of all ages, with no blocked access, and no passengers are prohibited from entering this area.
Hopefully this post answers the myth about a topless or nude area on the Pearl.
In fact, several women were sited on the pool Deck 12 and Deck 13, sunbathing while lying on their stomachs without tops.
Sorry guys, no special sites to see on Freestyle Deck. It's a great observation deck, but certainly may not provide what you really might want to see.
The repo cruise was great. We enjoyed every minute of it.
Lots to do, in just 4 days.
Perhaps we will need further reconissence from other passengers to see if this myth is real or not.
Hate to burst your bubble on being a myth buster...but it is a topless deck. I am a member of cruise critic message boards and the topic has been discussed on several threads. It does exist. I am looking forward to it.
Hello JWestShuh, welcome to Cruise-Chat. You seem to be determined to see something you probably won't. Maybe if you're on a European cruise, but I, like Richard, have never seen topless as you're referring to. Perhaps this was the original intent for naming it the "Freestyle" deck, but cruising has become a major family vacation thing. If you find what you're looking for, let us know.
I never visited the topless deck on Carnival when they had them, but I have come across nude beaches on my travels and if my conclusions from those episodes hold true for cruise ships, then most of the people that like to be au natural have no business doing so in a public place. In fact I'd say most ought to be ticketed for creating visual pollution!
