Me and 3 of my closest friends just booked a 7 day trip on the Norweigan Sun for the Western Carribbean. This is my first cruise and I have so many questions! Can anyone tell me about the club, casino and must-eat-at-restaurants on the ship? Also, any suggestions for must-do on shore excursions in Roatan, Belize, Costa Maya and Great Stirrup Caye? Is it better to book with locals online or through the ship? Are the cocktails on board really as bad as everyone says? thanks!

Ok here's my 2 cents. We went on Norwegian Sun in March and I was not impressed. The food, although good, was not great. The premium restaurants are excellent, but you'll pay for them! I thought thats what you get for the price of a cruise! The shows were disappointing. They were like the food...good but not great. The casino is nice. The drinks are indeed overpriced. In Belize there's lots to do...we went to the brewery and that was fun! Costa Maya is a bit of a waste...we just took the bus to beach at Majahual. There's not much else to do. Never been to Roatan but heard the snorkeling is unbelievable. Overall my general theme is that the boat is good, but not great! I've had much better cruises on Carnival!

My 2 cents on the Sun as well. I thought the food was much better than the shows, although we had a hypnotist that was pretty entertaining. The dazzles nightclub probably isn't anywhere near what you might find on an RCCL cruise. More like a lounge than a separate venue. I enjoyed the made to order waffles and omlettes every morning (yes I had both). I think one of the things that makes for a good cruise is the strength of the Cruise Director. Ours wasn't nearly as entertaining as some in the past. If you like to excercise, the Sun has some of the best equipment afloat. If you like snorkeling, Belize is a great spot for that, otherwise, you can do the cave tubing there. In Costa Maya, we did some snorkeling and horseback riding. We had a mini suite off the front of the ship which was awesome! The bathroom was the best we have ever had. Seprate tub/shower, stall, closet and makeup area. The balcony had two loungers and two chair's and a table. All in all, it was a good time, just like all the other cruises I have been on. Hope this helps. Have a great time!

I'm glad to see I am not the only one who thinks Costa Maya is a waste. Build a fake Mexican village and they will come, even if it can't handle all the crowds. If I go there again I think I'll stay aboard the ship.
