Surely every human life is equal, be it an American tourist on a cruise, a Philipino worker, servicing the cruise, or an Indian peasant slowly dying of asbestosis!
Certain people / organisations could do well to remember that

Anyway there is a state, that preaches liberty and freedom for all the world, but does it at home, what it wants from other states.
Generally I think it is always a question of good lawyers and powerful lobbies. Indian workers look for a job to feed their family - even if it is dangerous, it is better than hunger, so do they have a choice? And what about Philipinos?
Anyway as I said we know far to less to judge this case!

Isn't this a site for ship lovers - why all the political stuff....by the way, that State that talks about Liberty & Freedom has come to the rescue of millions & millions of people worldwide using its own capital & blood in the last 200 some years - learn your history & have some respect & appreciation for Liberty & Freedom....& what it all means to mankind....
It's probably simply because the sad demise of the France is laced with what you describe as politics and the two are difficult to separate whilst retaining a meaningful conversation.

Thank you for bringing attention to this matter. I just noticed the veiled political comments in some of the previous posts.
Thus I must remind everyone that comments which disparage a nation, a court, a political point of view, etc., are not allowed here.
Well if you don't think a meaningful conversation about the Norway can be had without disucssing the politics of the situation, then maybe we should no longer be having this disucssion on a cruising chat/ forum? We have allowed this topic to go on with the premis that the Norway was a grand cruising liner and she had many fans. But if the disucssion is no longer truly about cruising or cruising related topics and has become a political one, we may as well just close the topic down as it then has no place on this board.

Does anyone know if there are any new pictures Of the SS Norway since Peters last of may 12th? Does anyone have a good picture of her before they added the upper decks? Thank you
I expect a new image in the next few days. My friend told me he would get one last week but was delayed, so promises one asap. As soon as I get it, will post a notice here and on midshipcentury.com
When I was 13 (now 28), I was fortunate enough to have viewed the SS Norway in person. For me, this was a very significant moment because it sparked a lifelong interest/passion for cruising. I can recall that I was with my family and we were passing the Port of Miami in the car. To get a closer look, we pulled to the side of the road to take pictures. There were other boats in port that day but for some reason, the SS Norway my undivided attention. I recall its massive blue hull and its extreme length. It was sleek and grand.
Later that year, my mother took me on my first cruise aboard the Carnival Ecstasy. At the time, it was a new boat so it was of particular interest to my mom as she was a travel agent. Again, I got a chance to see the SS Norway up-close while she sat in port. From that moment on, I wanted to cruise on the SS Norway.
Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity as the boat was taken out of service before I could experience the grandeur for myself.
However, that first glimpse of the SS Norway has stuck with me ever since and to this day; I consider it to be the most beautiful passenger ship that I've ever seen.
To date, I've been on 8 cruises (all newer ships in the Carnival & Royal Caribbean fleets) and hope to go on many more. Because of my interaction with the SS Norway, I've taken interests in researching older ships on the internet and the different characteristics they had that made them beautiful in their day.
Maybe some of the more "senior" members on this board can give me the names of some ships that would be worth checking out or left lasting impression on them? Thanks!

Be careful...I speak from experience that this can be a very time-consuming and expensive hobby. But, it is also very rewarding. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
I'd suggest looking at Regal Empress, and possibly doing one of her two-night sailings.
Thank you for sharing your memories of SS Norway.
Happy cruising, LisaP

indeed it is unfortunate that Imperial Majesty doesn't operate "Regal Empress" on longer cruises from time to time such as Regal Cruise Line used to do.
One technical question: I know that the SS Norway used steam machines instead diesel. However, having the oil prices so high, If the Norway were active today it would have a problem with the energy costs impact? How does the energetic crisis impacts to the steam powered vessels??? THANKS
I can't give you all the specifics on why but a steam powered ship uses more fuel than a diesel powered one. Most all passenger ships today are diesel / electric.
