Hi all. Bear with me as I put on the moderator hat for a moment. Let's continue any discussion on SS Independence in this thread, which I've just rejuvenated. (It was buried on page 6, so no worries...)
See you over there!
As for our France/Norway... any new photos? (Although you may have to describe them to me.)
Hi - Where is everyone? Are things quiet because there is no news to report (sorry I have no contributions either) or is it that the general interest in this topic has declined since we all saw the pictures of France / Norway a few weeks ago?
JuCo's right... we got sidetracked by SS Independence for a while. Then again, I haven't heard anyting new about SS Norway, either. Maritime Matters reported a few weeks ago that demolition had slowed, and I've heard nothing since.

And as the ship breaking moguls in Alang have already stated to the world, all the workers on the small boat in the fore-ground are all wearing heavy duty gloves, hard-hats and face masks!!!

Is it my imagination or is there now a large hole in the bow where the name "Norway" was? Almost looks like someone removed the name as a whole piece...

Yes, the name is cut ou and you can look directly into the fwd mooring station on Norway deck
This last picture really made my day a little bit worse than I expected
... just came and saw the latest pic of our beloved France/Norway... and see her bridge gone. I feel the same way as I first saw the pics of the old Mauretania being broken up in Rosyth in 1935. Sheds tears... and a deep sigh.
I'd like to see the other side of the ship to see if the "Norway" has been removed there also. Makes you wonder why they would do this unless someone paid a special price just for the name...but that's a huge piece of steel! Heck, maybe NCL is going to name one of their newbuildings "Norway" and they're going to weld these pieces from the old Norway into the bow of the new! I can dream, can't I????

Looking at that partially-demolished bridge screen reminds me of our 1974 crossing. Our table-mates were traveling with their two small children, and had a forward-facing stateroom on Verandah Deck, directly below the bridge. The view from the windows was over the bow, and was just outstanding (we had an inside, on Upper Deck). At night they were under orders to draw the red drapes so that navigation personnel did not have to deal with the light below them.
We seldom saw the children, who took their meals with the other children in the Trianon, which was the children's dining room, thereby preserving the decorum of the Versailles. While we never visited the Trianon during a mealtime, we were told it was sometimes pretty noisy and wild, with kids flinging dinner rolls and the like. Dominique, our server, told us that waiters and bus boys who fell into disfavor with the maitre d' for infractions of various kinds were given varying sentences of hard labor in the Trianon, serving the restive juveniles.
Recollections such as these are particularly cherished now as we see this once-glorious ship being dissected by the vultures.

Very possibly. Maybe someone is just wanting the lettering. Can't imagine what someone would do with a hunk of steel that large....and heavy...must weight a couple of tons or so. Also noted that the "Norway" name is missing from the stern as well...
