We are travelling on the Sky in the near future. Does anyone know the policy on bringing alcohol on board for cabin use. Do they allow this still, or can you buy duty-free and pay a surcharge?

I was on the Sun last week. There is no "surcharge" unless you are referring to the $10 cokage fee for wine. In some ports of call, the shops automatically sent your liquor to the ship, in other ports they didn't. In Cozumel, I walked on with a bottle of Tequila, through the xray machines, and no one said anything to me.n When we were in St. Maarten same thing, some people had their bottles boxed up and it was easily detected, we put ours in a bag and walked on the shop with it. (We had a bottle of rum, and 2 bottles of wine.)

You can get alcohol at the duty free shops on the ship and it is comparable to what you can get on the islands.

Hi- Sailed the Sky last month to Alaska. I had read on some of the other cruise boards that NCL does not sell alcohol on board to take to one's room. On RCI, you can purchase it at duty-free prices, and pay an extra $9.00 to take it to your room. That made it convenient to buy it onboard. I brought a plastic bottle of Vodka on, in my carry-on luggage on the Sky- no problem. There was no way to purchase alcohol and bring it to your room. Hope this helps. Helen

I was on the Sky in August and there was no problem bringing wine on board. However, hard liquor is a different story. With the increased security almost every bottle of liquor is discovered. Try the coke bottle or water bottle trick...it is about the only way to get hard liquor aboard.
