If money is an issue, then having a porthole or even interior room is just fine. If you have the extra cash, the other rooms are of course a little nicer to have. I was just on the dawn in march and had a mini suite. We loved it. But truth be told, we weren't in the room that much. We are going again on the dawn on july 22nd, and this time we are getting a room on the fourth floor with a porthole. I am sure we will enjoy the cruise just as much as in march. Only difference is we will have more money to spend on other ways. Probably in the casino.
One plus of having a balcony is if you don't like the sailing day crowds by the pool or other outer decks, you have privacy on your own balcony.
Enjoy

We were just on the Dawn's 6/17 sailing and had a balcony mini-suite. I would never, ever sail without a balcony again. Definitely worth the extra $$. The views are fabulous I took my afternnon siesta on that balcony almost everyday. I would suggest the 11th or 10th decks.

I suppose a lot of it depends on budget, and how much time you plan on spending in your room, but from what I have read, the price difference between a balcony mini-suite and an inside stateroom, or even a room witha porthole adds up to a significant amount of money ($1,000 per person). Is this not the case? IMO, I'd prefer to spend that money on other vacation perks.

How many passenger will be in your cabin?
Which balcony cabin is best really depends on that.

I usually get a balcony on cruises when you're in sight of land most of the time, like a Hawaii or Alaskan cruise. On a Caribbean cruise, where you see the sea most of the time, I don't.
