My husband and I are considering the Gem for 2009 and we've been looking through the NCL brochures. The staterooms look pretty in-your-face color- and style-wise on the NCL ships. Just how obnoxious is it, or is it the kind of over-the-top that you get used to and learn to love, like the decor on Carnival? Big Grin

Not that an ugly stateroom would prevent me from booking a cruise...just curious. Smile (I just spent 12 days in the ugliest stateroom I've ever seen on Explorer of the Seas, so I just want to be able to prepare myself. Wink)

Hi Cortney,

We just got off the Pearl and it's basically the same decore of the Gem....The color scheme isn't what I would have picked out, but it is bright and colorful....Not boring...After the first day I don't notice the room the rest of the trip...The total decore of the ship is "Colorful" but not something I would find offensive....You will have a great time...Remember, there is no such thing as a bad cruise or ship...some are just better than others....Happy Sailing...

Cortney-Staterooms on the GEM are gorgeous, roomy and very comfy-nothing the least obnoxious in the color choices. She is a most pleasant ship and sure to please you!We are looking to book a second cruise on her in 2009!

Bon Voyage,

As I look out over my balcony at the bright blue sea, smoking a fine cigar,....yea that's what I'm thinking of...is the ship pretty enough?

Hank,

You are so right, nothing compares to looking out over the railing and seeing the ever changing color of the sea.. I skip the cigar and trade it for a chocolate chocolate chip cookie....Happy Cruising to One and All...

Like I said, Hank...it wouldn't stop me from going on a particular ship, I was asking out of curiosity and somewhat tongue-in-cheek. But thanks for your input.

Also, if I were to book a hotel on a Caribbean island, I'd be just as interested to know what the ambiance in the hotel was. If the hotel had a gorgeous view of the ocean but the accommodations were ugly as sin, wouldn't you kind of want to know that going in? But, I'm glad to hear that's not the case for the Gem. Smile
