We are planning a Southern Caribbean cruise this winter. We have narrowed it down to these two ships (finally), has anyone experienced one or both for comparison. Ports are the same so the ships quality is what we are most interested in. Also average age of passengers, we are mid thirties.
We have sailed the Southern Caribbean on the 'Galaxy' and found her to be a terrific ship. Just like her sister ship the 'Mercury' she is well designed and usually delivers outstanding service, food and entertainment. Your age bracket will be just about right for this ship. On our cruise it seemed that a large percentage of passengers were about 35 to 45 plus a few older folks like me who think they are still 30. I have heard comments about the 'Sky' and they were not entirely complimentary. One comment that comes to mind is that the traffic patterns on the ship are not the best. Perhaps someone could enlighten us on this subject. In addition, I am not in favor of 'Freestyle cruising' which regretfully prevails on NCL these days as I prefer the traditional style of cruise dining. Cruiseman
Each cruise line - and each ship, to some extent - has its own "personality," so it will depend on what your lifestyle is and which appeals to you. Celebrity tends to appeal to those wanting gourmet food, a little more sophisticated approach to life, many east Coast people, etc. NCL seems a little more laid-back (hence the freestyle cruising, which I must admit I have not tried but I find the idea quite appealing), and they don't have quite the reputation for food quality and presentation that Celebrity does. Your best bet: consult a travel agent who specializes in cruises, and be open about your preferences and your lifestyle likes & dislikes; they should be able to steer you to the cruise line best for you.
