First time cruisers, going to Alaska on the Veendam. We hear that to avoid seasickness, your cabin should be on a lower deck, midships.
We'll be in an outside cabin. Does anyone have recommendations about which cabin to book?

Hello bklawyer and welcome to cruise-chat.

Greyson and I both had comments on lower deck outside cabins in the thread "Ryndam-30 days", just a short ways down from yours.
Ryndam and Veendam are sisters so her information would apply to Veendam also.

In brief, we had cabin 844 on A deck and loved it. It was all the way aft and conveniently near the lifts and stairs. I doubt if being more midship could have been any smoother; and being a smaller ship, there are no midship lifts of stairs. So I would say aft is the place to be.

And by the way , we loved everything about Veendam. Wonderful staff, excellent food and a perfectly sized ship.

Have a great cruise.

Hi bklawyer, and welcome to cruise-chat.

We had cabin 728 on very-near-sister ship Maasdam, which is midships on A-deck. Ride was very smooth, and once our cabin door was closed, we heard very little from the hallways or adjacent cabins. We did, however, have some vibrations when pulling into or out of port, but it didn't last long.

HAL's outside cabins are better than most, IMO. We had a bathtub, for instance. The cabin was quite spacious -- and there were three of us.

Thank you LisaP; I was going to mention the bathtub but forgot. And yes, the cabin, bathroom and closets were very spacious.

And we experienced some vibration when docking but it was just the thrusters and never lasted very long.
