I have not personally ordered, but I have a friend that did. Yes, it is the mattress and the box springs. It arrived in beautiful condition, was delivered and set up. They love it.

Figured I'd bring this discussion back up to the "top" of the discussion board... Gatorgirl - did you ever order the HAL mattress ("Mariner's Dream"). ... or has anyone else (in addition to Sage's friend)?

My wife fell in love with the bed in our cabin on our Westerdam cruise, and is dying to buy one for our home... just don't want her to be disappointed if it was more the ship's motion and less the bed that made her sleep so well.

We have been told that the beds have only 12 inches of space under them and that a large suitcase will not fit under them and that the Amsterdam will not store luggage.
Can someone comment on this?

I cannot comment on the space under the bed. But I can comment on the bed's, we were on the Carival Legand and they had the same bed's.Carnival is the parent company so I don't know who got the bed's first,H.A. or Carnival, H.A. did not have them 3 years ago,but they got them right after we saided with them. The bed's were fantastic!! Tom

We were on the Ryndam with HAL this last summer/fall and we were able to get our large suitcases under them. You just kinda have to push on the top until it goes under the frame. No problem for us. Those beds sleep so comfortable too, have a great time on your cruise.

My husband & I were on the Volendam and we each had big suitcases. His would fit underneath but we just leaned mine up against a wall by the wall as it was too big to go underneath the bed.

As a tour director with 20 HAL cruises under my belt, here a couple of suggestions for storing luggage. Open it up and then see if it will fit under the bed. Stand it up in the closet (under shirts for instance), leave it slightly unzipped and use it for dirty laundry.

All our luggage fit under our bed on Veendam and the widest was 12 1/2 in.; it was also the most comfortable bed on which we have ever slept.

Since they are actually called bulkheads on a ship, maybe there is a different name for the place where two bulkheads come together also.

Just thinking out loud.

The original question posed on this thread was whether anyone had purchased a "Mariner's Dream" bed for home (based on the rave reviews on board)?

I was still a bit leery about purchasing a $1,600 mattress from HAL online, and after waiting for some time to see if anyone had, I wound up purchasing a mattress the "old fashioned way" - from a local store.

Nonetheless - I'm still curious whether anyone has ever purchased a "Mariner's Dream" bed from HAL and if they were happy with it.
