A friend was on the oosterdam and said they woke everyone up with the ships alarm one morning and announced there was a fire in the engine room and to stand by for instructions...according to her the captain came back on 45 minutes later and told everone that the engine room was too hot to enter at the moment but the fire was out and to go about your normal business...they flew mechanics in on a helicopter but they didnt have the nessesary parts to make repairs. Because of the damaged engine they couldnt make all the scheduled ports and had to skip the last one to limp back to port...they gave people $100 shipboard credit and refunded any shore excursions for the missing port, plus they got a coupon for a future discounted cruise...anyone know the extent of the damage? will the ship be taken out of service?

from what I've heard this was not an engine room fire but a minor fire in one of the ship's Azipod motors.

Wow, they had one of those when we were on the ship 2 years ago too, same ship. I think they better have some things checked.
