We did a Maasdam cruise from Montreal to Boston this year in June. It was our first cruise and we were extremely impressed! So much so, we're going to do another next year on Voyager of the Seas!
On leaving Montreal, you feel like a celebrity - boats congregate around, there are hundreds of people on shore waving you goodbye. I had a lump in my throat.
7 days was not long enough to enjoy all the on-board facilities. We were in a new port each day, except for one day cruising up the Saguenay Fjord. Every port and tour was just fantastic.
HAL really know how to treat their passengers well. Nothing was too much trouble. With the amount of people they see coming and going each cruise, I'm surprised anyone remembers your name. One standout was a fabulous Lido Deck steward by the name of Shy. He belies his name - he's anything but. We introduced ourselves the first day in Montreal when we had lunch there and he welcomed us by name every time we went there. Very impressive.
I would gladly go back on the Maasdam and/or other HAL ships again.
