I have a friend who is booked on the Rotterdam the first week in September. The ship will be stopping in St. Petersburg, Russia for 2 days during her cruise and she is concerned about exchanging dollars for the local currency there. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how she will need to do this? Evidentally she was told by her travel agent that the ship would not be able to accomodate the exchange of this type currency. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Use an ATM on shore to get local currency - DON'T exchange currency as the exchange rate will not be as good as you'll get using the ATM.

Definitely use a local ATM as Chucks OK suggests. Ships are limited as to types of currency that they can convert (Russian rubles are not available on any mainstream cruise line I am aware of) AND besides, while it may be convenient - the exchange rate is awful.
