Most of the decent hotels in San Juan are very expensive. We had the same experience on our cruise last Feb. If you don't mind an older hotel with small room and fewer amenities, you could go for one of the more "moderate" hotels, like Comfort Suites/Clarion, Hampton Inn, etc. I'd stick with ones in the Condado or Isla Verde areas though.

We used the Comfort Inn several years ago. It was old, the room was small, and it was expensive; like all hotels in San Juan. However, it was clean and safe and it was adequate for a nights rest before our cruise.

Thank you for input Farmerjohn...the Comfort Inn seemed fine online so we made reservations there. JSL

Hi, Everytime we stay in San Juan we book the Caribe Hilton which is in Old San Juan. Last February we used Priceline and got the Normandie hotel which is right next to the Caribe. I paid $100 a night. It's a 31/2 star hotel. During the day we lounged around on the Caribe grounds. I use priceline all the time and never had a problem.
