Day-There are a number of posts regarding accomodations in Ft. Lauderdale. I have enjoyed staying at the Sleep Inn which will provide Shuttle to/from the Airport and to/from the Seaport. Ramada by the Airport will do the same. Penny 3333 likes the Tropirock but there is no shuttle service. ChucksOK likes Embassy Suites on 17th St. Causeway. You might get plenty of ideas by researching all the Ft. Lauderdale posts.
Not sure when you're leaving, but we stayed pre/post cruise this time at the Renaissance. It's across the street (17th street causeway) from Port Everglades. The hotel was clean and the staff were very accomodating. It's a smoke-free hotel. They put us near the exit since I am smoker, easy access to the balcony. You can take the water taxi for $10/day per person. It's a great way to see Lauderdale. From the Renaissance, it's an 8 minute walk. Hope this helps.
I'll second the Embassy Suites on the 17th Street Causeway. They just went through a major renovation about a year ago to repair Hurricane Wilma damage.
The hotel has cruise and stay packages and will transport you to and from the pier as well as to the airport. However, what the hotel DOES NOT have is shuttle service FROM the airport...
