Booked on the Ecstacy 12/2 and will be driving down to Galveston the night before. Any suggestions on where to stay either in Houston or Galveston?

We like the La Quinta in La Porte it is just off the hwy 146 then you have a quick trip in the morning to the port.
Lots of eating places nearby.
Or Nasa RD One has several hotels along that stretch Quality Inn, Microtel, http://www.extendedstayhotels.com/ right across from Nasa if you want to take a tour there it is very convienent.

LHT28.. La Porte is close to the Port of Houston. Artzy2 said they were going to Galveston.

Artzy2- Assuming you know that its about 40 miles from Houston to Galveston, you can make the choice if you want to stay in Houston or not. Also, you didn't state what kind of hotel you were after- a really fancy place or a decnt nights sleep...

There is a Holiday Inn in Galveston that will let you leave your car in their parking lot and use their FREE shuttle service to the ship. At $70 a week for parking at the ship terminal, that almost pays for your room. Others on this formun has suggested the Moody Gardens Hotel (another free shuttle hotel) but I have never been there, so I can't say.

have a good cruise!

Yes I knew that but it is not that far to Galveston and maybe cheaper than Galveston.
Nasa Rd One is a bit closer with more to do but not sure about cruise parking.
Moody Gardens is a nice place but might be a bit pricey
You might find a hotel at

It is all about choices. Wink

Fair enough... I just didn't want them showing up at the wrong port Eek

True, you can stay in Houston (I'd do what you said and stay south of Houston if that were the case.

Artzy2, you said you were coming from Dallas. And having done that drive several times, and knowing that the Ecstacy departs on Saturday, that means you will be driving down Friday. If you leave Dallas by 2Pm or 3PM, that puts you in Houston about 8 or 9 assuming a stop for dinner. A hotel in Houston wouldn't be bad because you'll get to Houston and be able to stop instead of having to plug on for another 30 to 40 mins. If you do that route (or even if you decide not to do the hotel shuttle thing)
Check out EZ-Cruise parking on the internet. That do cruise parking in Galveston but charge less than the terminal parking. Either way you will end up taking a shuttle bus to and from the cruise ship (I'd drop someone off at the terminal with the luggage and to stand in line and then take the car to the parking lot)

I just figure that if the hotel lets you park in their lot and shuttles you to the ship, that is like a $50 (cruise parking is $10 per day I THINK EZ cruise only charges $35 or $40.. I know its $50 for a 7 day) discount on the cost of the room.

You might want to try Hotel Kingdom for the area around NASA / Clear Lake
