Just got a great price, with Sonny's suggestions, for an one night pre-cruise stay on Dec 19. The location looks great. Has anyone stayed there lately ?

We just returned from Ft. Lauderdale. We didn't stay there, but did walk into the lobby to take a look. We stayed at the TropiRock. The Trader is not directly on the beach, but across A1A from the beach. The lobby was clean and neat. It's newer than the Yankee Clipper area. There are a lot of cafes and restaruants near by. Bahia Mar isn't far either, if you like to stroll among the yachts. (I love seeing how the other half lives). You can also rent charter fishing boats at Bahia Mar. The Jungle Queen is a fun way to spend some time as well. They take you via the intracoastal and canal systems to an Indian village, there they have a bar-b-que, alligator wrestling and a gift shop. Hope you have a great stay at the Trader and fun in Ft. Lauderdale. Don't forget about the water taxi.
Thanks so much Penny, you are my hero ! It ended up being half the price of Pier 66, and as beautiful as their pool area is, I can get by for one night pre-cruise. More money for the Champagne Bar !!

We just got back last night from a land trip to Fort Lauderdale Beach. Although we stayed at the Marriott BeachPlace Towers, which we loved, we walked over to the Yankee Trader. It looked very nice, and had a second floor walkway across the highway to the beach. The restaurant overlooking the beach looked nice also. NO hotels are on the beach side in that area; all are across the beach. by the way, the walkway had an elevator on both the hotel and beach sides.
You cannot beat the location. If you have time, take the water bus. It is so interesting to see all the fabulous homes and yachts of the super super wealthy, and is a good way to get from place to place. An all day pass is $11, and a senior pass is $9, and you can get on and off.
Also, there are many fun cafes outdoors a afew blocks south, past the Marriott beachPlace Towers, which were all good. Too bad you cannot spend more than a day in the area.
Thanks SD, I think I may change my afternoon flight to early morning.....I really appreciate the recent review.

I, too, received The Trader for two nights pre-cruise next March on Priceline but think I over bid. My accepted bid (second try) was about 60.00 less per night than the hotel website internet rate, so it's still a savings, but still paid quite a lot ( well more than 150.00 per night before tax). I wonder if the hotels in FLL are just so high now during peak travel times that this is the going rate on priceline now, or if I overbid. I am unsure if we can disclose actual accepted bids on this site, so I didn't name the actual price.
