I stayed in Venice three days last month before my cruise. I stayed in a small hotel in San Marco called Casa alla Fenice. I paid less than 100 euros per night for a great room with a private bath and canal view. It is very near everything and the hostesses all speak English and were incredibly helpful. It was a 3 minute walk to a vaporetto stop. On our day of departure we had a private water taxi pick us up at the canal which is literally 20 feet from the hotel's front door. I paid sixty euros for the taxi and it drops you off right at the cruise dock. I didn't have to touch my luggage. Cruise personnel were right there and took my luggage straight from the taxi. It was perfect. By the way, Venice is not the cheapest city in the world, so be prepared to spend many euros for food and beverages. Casa alla Fenice has a web site. Just google their name. Have a great time and enjoy the city. If you need any more city info let me know.
