We will be arriving late on Saturday for a Sunday boarding. I hate to spend $400 for a room that I will only be sleeping in. Can anyone recommend a clean place reasonable close to the dock? Thanks !

We stayed at the Condado Plaza Hotel & Casino and I believe it was $225/night. It was really nice. I looked on-line and the Comfort Inn had a couple of decent reviews, here's one of them:Traveler rating:

We stayed at the Comfort Inn for one night before boarding our cruise ship. We were nervous at first since the taxi drove through some rough neighborhoods, but the hotel was nice once we got there. It is very "dated" but incredibly clean. We got a fantastic internet only price of $89 per night which couldn't be beat. It's also located about a block from Ashford which has shops and food.......the beach is about 2-3 blocks away.

Overall I'd definitely recommend it for a pre-cruise stay or for budget minded travelers.

Hope this helps.

When in San Juan in March we stayd at the Marriott Stellaris. We did 2 pre nights so we wanted a place to relax at for a couple of days. The resort was beautiful and right on the beach, but if we were just going down to sleep I would recommend looking around.
Beware....in San Juan most of the hotels/resorts apply and additional "resort fee" on top of the rate and room tax.! We paid approx. $60 in taxes per night at the marriott! Just ridiculous, but was in a good locale.
Good Luck with the search

Try this: Go to priceline.com and put in a price of $80 for a three star hotel in San Juan. You will probably get the Normandie Hotel. We did it and we were happy. We paid $100. You could even try a four star for $100 and would probably get the Caribe Hilton. I've been using priceline for two years and love it. Make sure you bid on a hotel in SAN JUAN. It will be close to the ship. Maybe a 5 minute taxi ride. Let me know how you make out. I have pictures if you want to see them.

Good luck!

A few years ago we stayed at the Comfort Inn. The price seemed high but was low for San Juan. As mentioned, the hotel is older, but it was fine for one night before the cruise.
