Sailing out of Galvaston 12/16. Arriving on the 15th and wondering what the transportation options are. There are 4 of us-One way car rentals are about $100 each way plus gas. Any idea on the cost of a taxi or limo?

Molemaui,

I sailed out of Galveston on 05-14-06. I got a very cheap room at Doubletree right outside of Bush International ($79.99) and rent a car from Enterprise (i think it was 79.00 including the 1 way drop off) The gas from IHX to port of Galveston was like $5. I felt this is a better way to go vs getting on a bus (they call limo) and go to various hotels to drop off some other passengers.

Just my opinion.

Steve,

That sounds like a good plan. Thanks for your response.

We are sailing on 01/21/07. I found a Lincoln Towncar for 65+gratuity (90.00). This is from Hobby to Galveston, a little more from Bush. http://www.extremeelegance.com/GALVESTONCRUISELIMOUSINE.html
Check them out they seem pretty nice. The rental car that I researched was from Galveston to Hobby for 44.00. The airports do not have the added one way drop fee.

Hello,

We are scheduled to arrive at the Galveston port on November 16. I received a rate of $47.15 out the door from Enterprise from the Galveston port to Hobby airport, with no drop off charges.

I chose this option because it will give us an opportunity to see some of Galveston and maybe the Johnson Space Center. Our flight leaves Hobby at 3:25 PM and if there are any flight delays we won't be waiting around the airport.

From some people we met who live in Houston, it is about 45 minutes from the Galveston pier to the Hobby airport.

Hope that this helps,

Fred

And the time from Houston Bush Airport to Galveston is more like 1 1/2 to 2 hours, depending on traffic.

As Karen notes, 45 minutes is an optimistic scenario for the trip from Galveston to HOU.

Friends,

I have never flown into or out of Houston. I was just telling all what I have been told about travel times between the Houston area airports and the Port of Galveston. The source of my information are long time residents of Houston and frequent travelers.

I hope that I haven't cause any problems for anyone.

Take care,

Fred
