Salmon fishing or ocean fishing? You are there at the very best time for salmon so I would consider this as an option. In Ketchikan, try fly-in fishing in the Misty Fjords with Seawind Aviation. I would book it on my own, but wait until I got into the port simply because the weather in September can be quite dicey. If you book it in advance, the operator may want to fish if the water is quite rough or it is raining cats and dogs, and you might not want to.

Hope that helps.

We were thinking of either salmon or halibut. But we dont know if we will have enough time to do them.

I would focus on the salmon. While you can't bring it onto the ship, you can have it sent home or tade it for smoked or canned salmon. The salmon are think in September.

research the fishing carefully. Most of those boats have several lines out and if they get a fish on you have to take turns handling the rods. I'm not convinced its the best fishing experience. We have booked freshwater fishing at Chilkoot Lake (Skagway excursion) Six people on the boat and each has their own rod. Also, possible wildlife sightings on what, I understand is a beautiful lake. Good Luck!
