We are cruising with Princess at the end of May and are considering pre-booking some of our excursions. Does anyone have any advice about whether this is necessary or not. The main excursion we definitely want to do is the dogsledding on the glacier from either Juneau or Skagway. Would appreciate any other advice for excursions we love wildlife and the outdoors are both fit and late forties.

If you really want a particular excursion, by all means book it ahead of time! Some are limited in the number of people they'll take; those, along with the most popular ones (like the White Pass & Yukon RR in Skagway) may fill up before you get onboard. You won't be charged for them beforehand - the charges will go on your shipboard account - and you'll know you have a space on them.

Thanks Karen we will probably book this one on line. Have you any favourite excursions you could advise on. We don't particularly want to spend all day every day travelling around, but half day excursions sound like a better alternative giving you free time in the resort for a walk around. What are your views?

As every cruise line offers slightly different excursions, there are too many for me to address specifically - plus a lot will depend on your interests. My favorites may not be your cup of tea. Personally, I liked having some time to just walk around, in addition to excursions, so the 1/2 day ones make sense to me. On the other hand, some really special excursions take much of the time in port - some of the wildlife-watching excursions, etc. - and can be well worth it.

Hello Gatorgirl

A bit late replying to your question, sorry kids home from college for Easter so computer busy. Yes we've booked the dogsledding via Princess from Skagway. Its the one thing we really didn't want to miss. We're thinking about white water rafting and kayaking too, but havn't booked these yet. Starting to get excited now, we leave on 27th May but have to fly from England first. Wot about the midge/mosquito situation at this time of year anyone got any advice. Hope you enjoy your cruise Gatorgirl. Where are you from?
Allison
