I wanted to know what would be the best time in the day to take the white pass train trip in mid June? Most people are recommending the early morning train. Can anyone advice about the fog conditions in June? Thanks

Edited typo in topic title.

You never know in Alaska. have been on the Train twice. Once in the AM, once late in the day, both were great and sunny, we were lucky.

Thanks Gary! I think we will go with the early morning. Then we would have time to explore the city.

Take the morning trip....and you are right, you can do the rest of the city when you get back...I was there in May and they had to plow 8 feet of snow off the tracks before we could go up.....Nothing like that in June.....Last time I did the Gold panning and had a good time doing that.....Skagway has lots of shopping too.

I rode the train in june 2002, great trip. Sit in the last car, on the way up you can stand on the back platform and see a fantastic view. On the way down the hill you will then be in the first car.

We had the opposite when we did the train..... the morning people had fog, clouds and snow; by our 1:00 ride, everything had cleared. We were there in early Sept. We got to have a leisurely morning while everyone else was scrambling to eat breakfast and catch their excursions. One thing to watch for if you're sitting in the last car - if you're doing the turnaround, that means that car will be the first behind the engine on the return trip, which means deisel fumes.....
