Now is the time of year that people are starting to book their Alaska cruises for 2006. I would like to make a suggestion for those of you that have never travelled to the Pacific Northwest: Why not spend a few extra days pre or post cruise and enjoy the region. We met so many people on our last Alaska cruise that saw what the region had to offer and were sorry they did not have a few extra days. I would suggest at least a week, but remember it does rain.

For Seattle, spend a few days touring around the city, take a day trip to the San Juan Islands by ferry. If your cruise does not include a stop in Victoria, BC, then catch a fast ferry to downtown Victoria for a day. Go for a Whale Watching Tour.

For Vancouver, at least a few days around the city, take a ferry and car/bus to Victoria or take the floatplane. Spend some quiet time in the Gulf Islands (Canadian side of San Juans), take a whale watch, drive the Sea to Sky highway to Whistler,BC - resort town and part host to 2010 Winter Olympics.
