Can anyone tell me if they have rented a vehicle and headed to Homer while the Diamond or any other ship was in port? We thought of renting a car and doing that. Any information on things to do in that area we should have 10 hours before we have to get back on the ship and turn around and head home.

Pattiarts, we were in Whittier last week for the day while waiting for our ship to board for the southbound cruise. We chose to go on a glacier cruise with www.26glaciers.com. The Klondike Express is a 137 foot high speed catamaran that goes to glaciers in Prince William Sound. It is a 5 hour cruise (we took the 1pm trip) during which we saw humpback whales, dall sheep, sea otters, sea lions, seals, bears and bald eagles in addition to up close viewing of over 6 glaciers. Wow! The catamaran was docked right in front of the ship so it couldn't have been easier. It was an exciting and stress free day.

Do you remember how much the cost of the trip was?

The price was $140 (tax in) per person. For more detailed information, I posted the website in my previous email. Cheers.

I don't recommend driving to Homer from Whittier with just 10 hr, there really isn't much scenery or animals to look at. We drove from Seward to Homer last week and that took about 4 hr with a few pit stops one way.

I too think you are better off doing the Klondike Express or whatever Princess offers for shore excursion.
