I know I've been asking a lot of questions lately but my trip is in less than two weeks and I'm a little slow in planning.
Our cruise ends in Whittier EARLY in the morning but our flight isn't scheduled to leave until 8:30 that evening. Any suggestions on what to do while in Whittier and how far is the airport from the port?

Well... there is nothing to do in Whittier.. its a sleepy little fishign village. There are some excursions to local glaciers...

We rented a couple of cars there and drove to Anchorage for our fights. Ours were later than yours. We stopped at an animal refuge/zoo and then some of us went golfing and others toured anchorage (We had 3 car loads). Its about a 2 hour drive, so you have plenty of time to take in the sites. You will probably be docked in Whittier before you go to bed.

Anchorage is not unlike any normal mid-sized USA city IMHO. We went to a wonderful museum in downtowm Anchorage and spent about 3-4 hours there, but could have spent all day as I thought it was very complete.

Will you be traveling by car or train to Anchorage?

Jim,
We too are arriving in Whittier and have to get to Anchorage for a 1am flight. You said you rented a couple of cars and drove. Did you find a reasonalbe deal? Would you reccomend doing that or taking the motorcoach to Anchorage? We're trying to figure it out and are thinking a car rental and a cheap hotel might be the best bet. Your input?
Thanks,
Mary

Depends on the number of people in your party I think. We had a family group of 16 people, so there were 4 or 5 people per rental car. The transfers were $125 each, and I think we paid on the order of $275 for a one way rental on a mini van/ SUV. So you can do the math. The rental place is in a general store/bait and tackle shop about 2 block walk from the pier.
We also took advantage of the luggage valet service (the airline allowed you to check your bags in right there at the cruise ship and THEY took them to the airport. So we did have our luggage in the cars while we drove around.

Private message me if you want more details, I'd be happy to help out.
