My husband and I are going on an Alaskan cruise in May. On this date we'll be in Juneau and I can't decide on which tour to go on. How is the four glacier dog sled and helicopter trip compared to the other glacier tours, is it worth the extra $ over other glacier tours and which one is the best of all. also has any one done the Mendenhall glacier and whale Quest?
Sikta we are on a waiting list for the 4x4 wilderness adventure- is this trip worth it? How about the captain's choice wildlife Quest and beach trek?
Icy Straight we didn't see anything on our cruise tours that excited us, does anyone have any recomendations?
Thanks Lynn

I will be in Juneau on the Junbe 24. I am going on the Taku Glacier Lodge and Flightseeing tour. I have had numerous recommendations on that tour from people who thoroughly enjoyed it.

Eastern Caribbean Holland America 2006

Alaska Diamond Princess 2007

Western Caribbean NCL Jewel 2008

We did the glacier helicopter/trek and it was incredible. Worth the money, it's an experience that you will never forget.

The nice thing about the combination glacier/whale watch tour is that you get to do two of the best things Juneau has to offer. Hard to pack Juneau all into one day, as there are many good options there.

Can't speak for the other 2 choices you mention as those weren't available for us. Icy Strait is a very new port - until recently, it was just a cruising day.

Enjoy Alaska! It's one of my most favorite places! Smile

We'll be in Juneau on May 27, and plan to visit the Mendenhall Glacier and the Mt. Roberts Tram on our own (there's a local bus company which has shuttles going directlt to the glacier visitor center). I have also read the whale-watching tours by Captain Larry (Orca Enterprises) are great (has to be booked independently, not through Celebrity).

You also asked about Sitka - I'm sorry our cruise doesn't stop in Sitka because I would take the Sitka's Secrets marine wildlife tour - if you care at all about seeing horned puffins in SE Alaska, this is the place to do it - the tour goes around St. Lazaria island, which is a breeding colony for seabirds: puffins, murres, etc. Otherwise to see puffins, you have to go to the Gulf of Alaska. Website is www.sitkasecret.com.
