We rode this great train system twice in July. Once we traveled from Anchorage to Whittier which was very interesting (great tunnel that allows train and autos to travel on same roadbed at different times, of course.)Took a boat to Valdez from there.

Our second ride was from Fairbanks to Denali NP using the "Gold Star" service. Wow! Upper decker seating all the way, (breakfast off of the menu included in price) in the dining car part of the car (lower part of car) and a tour guide who gave narration and answered questions along the way. This was a Fairbanks high school senior who was working his second summer in an intern program that they have with schools. Very imperssive and knowledgable young man. Made us impressed with their school system, if this is the quality of their students!

Our next trip to Alaska will involve the land tour and cruise. I definitely want to to the Denali trip on the train. It sounds like you had a great time. Do you have any pictures to share? I love seeing everyone's pictures.
