Hi All, I am cruising to Bermuda this Sunday (8/6) on Explorer of the Seas. Was wondering what the online set up is and if I should bring my laptop. It is imperative that I check email during this time. Let me know asap many thanks! packmc
I hear they have packages ... ie 50 cents per minute, $25 for x minutes etc. I also heard that there is in cabin 'dial up' service and I would love more info on that. Also heard they have 'hot spots' around the ship. Does that mean you use the computers provided by RC or you can bring your own. Need some clarification. Many thanks for your replies
You can bring your own laptop if you want. If you are going to use your computer a lot, you make choose a package deal. There are hotspots around the ship, or you can hook up in your cabin. Dave56 can help you out with your questions. He has a lot of experience with his laptop aboard a ship. For just checking email I use the ships computers. I spend about $40 for the whole cruise.
We were on the Explorer in June. I brought my laptop (which is already set up for wireless internet) and was quite glad I did. They have several packages available. The one I purchased was fifty dollars for which I received I believe 150 minutes. As Sonny said, there are several hotspots on the ship, one being the Cafe Promenade. While I understand the onboard computers are fairly "slow" the wireless was high speed. There is also another program wherein you can obtain service from your stateroom. I preferred the Wi-Fi, however, because for me it was the best bang for the buck.
You may wish to check out Tom Ogg's latest Mega Review for the Explorer for he goes into more detail. I have a review of our June cruise posted as well but I'm a mere novice while Tom is the expert.
