RichC - That is one of the saddest news releases I've read in a long time regarding cruiseline cutbacks. Moreso since it involves RCL-long a cruise favorite. This same date I'm reading that pillow chocolates and chocolate milk are not available on some RCL ships!

Yes. After I get my new seapass I can leave the ship anytime I want, just like any other port. It only takes a few minutes to get a new seapass.

I don't think they'll charge for getting off the ship, it's getting back on the ship that worries me.

Sonny V - I'm not fortunate enough I guess-We won't be sailing RCCL until April 2009!
Would you be so kind as to ask the chef to freeze some lobster tails for us until then! By Spring 09 we may be paying for each and every meal! Let's hope they don't charge us per bag!

I had to delete the link RichC provided regarding the steak fee. The linked website had banner advertisements which contained profanity.

Please ensure when you post a link you look around that website first to ensure it doesn't violate our TOS.

A synopsis of the report:

The $14.95 steak was initially reported to be "organic", but then RCI backtracked and said it was really "all natural". Their spokesman said it is a test to gauge interest for an upscale steak without having to go to the Chops steakhouse. The steak is not cooked in Chops however, instead it is cooked in the main galley with all the other mass-produced dinners.

The spokesman also claimed that the "free" steak was still available. When confronted with a menu from the Freedom Of The Seas which didn't list the "free" steak option, the spokesman said it was still available but guests would have to ask for it. He had no intelligible answer when asked how someone would know they could get something not listed on the menu.

The "test" is still ongoing aboard the Freedom and the Majesty Of The Seas. No word on when it will end <ha ha ha!>.

So it still comes down to this: Pay $14.95 for a steak in the main dining room, or for $25 you can go to Chops and get a choice of several prime cuts along with better side dishes and more personal service.

This is the slippery slope IMHO.

Maybe we can get pillow chocolates for 5 cents each. Oops, I mean 6 cents. Gotta add a 15% gratuity. Roll Eyes
