Hello

I am going on my 4th cruise this November and it will be my 1st time on Royal Caribbean. I will be sailing on the Explorer of the Seas. I have heard from numerous veteran cruisers that RCL's rooms are very small and poorly decorated.

I am interested in finding out more about this, your thoughts, feelings ect. My last cruise was on Carnival and they have very large rooms, which is why, I suspect that they are a much more popular cruise line then RCL.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The rooms are a little larger than Carnival, thats just my opinion though. The luggage fits under the beds which is really nice. Hope this helps.

FYI - we've sailed 6 times, our 4th with RC coming up in 10 days! others have been Princess, and NCL. We LOVE RC and it just depends on you. The 1st cruise, we had a smaller outside cabin, perfect I thought. The next RC they upgraded us to a suite. My husband loved it because he packs A LOT! RC is a great compremise between Carnival and other more upscale and sedate lines. We have never failed to be completely satisfied with our accomodations or service with RC. Start looking forward to you cruise now! And certainly, don't worry about the size of your cabin. Afterall coziness can be nice too! Bon Voyage, RK

You make an assumption that Carnival does more business than RC because they are a better line and they have larger Cabins. I think your wrong on both counts. It is our opinion RC is head and shoulders above Carnival. We made one Carnival cruise and if it had been our first, we would have never cruised again. Carnival is for the younger crowd and those that like to party. After having fights breaking out in our hallway on three successive nights, they finally had to post a security guard in our hallway for the rest of the cruise.

As far as size of the cabin, we pack more luggage than most people and we have never had a problem with space.

Why don't you post a review when you return and give us your opinion on RC and the size of their cabins.

Regards,
Tom & Mary

No it is not true that royal caribbean rooms are extremely small. we sailed with several cruiselines and our cabin on Enchantment of the Seas (outside cabin) and also our cabin on the new Brilliance of the Seas (outside with balcony)was big enough. You can store easily all your clothes and other stuff. Your suitcases can be placed under the beds and your room is very beautifull furnished. Have a great time on your Royal Caribbean cruise.

Kind regards Arno

Hello,
Carnival and RCCL are different products, so it is a bit difficult to compare them..... if they were "potatos"... Carnival would be 'french fries' [they go great with your Happy Meal] and RCCL would be a 'Baked Potato' [they go great with Filet Mignon].
The cabin space is compact on all ships! On RCCL you can store your bags under the beds, and that is a plus!
Enjoy your cruise....

The size differential between ocean view cabins on Carnival and Royal Caribbean is marginal. In fact, an ocean view on the 'Explorer' is 180 square feet and on the Carnival 'Triumph' the footage is 185.
Having said that, I would like to point out that even though one ship's cabins might be bigger than another, you might feel that the so called 'smaller' cabin might be considered bigger because of the way the cabin is laid out. Even the shape of the bed and its location in the cabin can make a large cabin seem a lot smaller.
Sincerely. Cruiseman

Hi!

It is correct that Royal Caribbean's cabins originally were much smaller than Carnival's. However, this has changed with the introduction of the "Vision"-class. The only RCI ships that still have those very small cabins are the "Nordic Empress" and the three "Sovereign"-class vessels. Do not worry about that cabin size on the "Explorer" - you should be fine!

On the Grandeur - Category M-Q inside are 140 sq. ft., and Category K and L inside are 146 sq. ft. As for oceanview cabins they are 154 sq.ft.

Hello All,
We just returned from Explorer of The Seas stayed in a modest Catagory I, Level 2, Outside Cabin 2550. We have also been on Granduer in a Deluxe Balcony cabin.

Of course the Balcony cabin was nice. We also very pleased that our last 2550 cabin was equally nice. We had a large porthole the size of a window really. The bed was positioned under the window. The room also had a loveseat and table plus mirrored desk/make-up area. My husband and I always over pack. We had 6 bags total and everything fit in the closet, shelves and drawers. I brought 20 extra hangers which was a real help. All of our bags fit under the bed when we lifted it. The bathroom space was small but the space was used very well. I would take this room again no problem and it was a very economical choice. I have traveled on Carnival, HAL and Some Lines That Are No More. I have had larger rooms but RCCL has the best use of space. wink

Floridagal, thank you so much for your brief review of catagory I, level 2 cabins. We're booked on the Brilliance, Jan 13th with a cat. I, level 2 outside cabin # 2026. I'm so happy to hear they're more than adequate!!! I was afraid we'd get there and find a mini porthole, partially obstructed or something. wink 62 days and counting!! big grin

I have sailed many different cruise lines, including both Carnival, 3 times, and RCCL, 3 times. The smallest cabins I have ever seen were on Carnival. My cabins on RCCL were much larger, and much nicer. I have had a category I, deck 2 on a previous RCCL cruise, I am taking a category I, deck 2 on my next cruise. This cabin was large enough and spacious enough, for everything I brought. I am also committed to RCCL after having sailed both lines. They are number 1 for me. big grin

I WAS JUST ON EXPLORER OF THE SEAS WITH TWO FRIENDS THAT SNORED! THE ROOM ON DECK EIGHT WAS
SUITABLE FOR THE OCCASION. AFTER ALL THE SHIP WAS
GREAT....WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A PORT HOLE TO LOOK
OUT OF; BUT WE WERE SO CAUGHT UP IN HAVING A GOOD
TIME, THAT WE MADE THE BEST OF EVERYTHING WE CAME ACROSS.....THERE WAS SO MUCH TO DO ON BOARD THAT
WE DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO TAKE PART IN EVERYTHING....
I AM ALREADY BOOKED FOR TWO CRUISES NEXT YEAR. ON DIFFERENT TWO OTHER SHIPS....KEEPING IN MIND, THAT
WE USUALLY GET WHAT WE PAY FOR.PROVIDING THAT WE
HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE TO GO ALONG WITH IT!
SO ENJOY.....LOVE ALWAYS IN THE SPIRIT.

what is UBBCode?

I hope you love the Brilliance of the Seas. I was on this ship a couple of weeks ago.

Your stateroom will be plenty adequate. Warning about the bathroom in this category, the shower is small and circular but adequate. Don't expect a full length shower stall like you might have at home. The shower head is like a "shower massage" kinda in that you can leave it on the wall or slide it out and be hand-held. The shower head is also adjustable in height. Good luck in getting the water to come one - you may find it a little tricky to figure it out at first. I figured it out finally but got wet before I wanted to (ha ha). The numbers on the dials I was told were in Celsius.

Have a great time! Try going up to the Solarium at night - it's beautiful!
