If you are a New Englander, you would never qualify what they serve as Lobster; it just doesn't match up to the REAL thing.

Well I can't speak for other ships, but my wife and I just sailed on LOS and they served lobster. I usually don't order 2 entrees because one is plenty. Our waiter came to me and said how about another lobster tail. I sheepishly said, why not. In about 2 seconds, he brought me another plate. There have been discussions about alternative items on the menu. I did notice that steak was not an alternative every night, although they did have chicken and fish as options. They did offer steak a couple of nights on this 7 day cruise. By the way, Chops was worth it. Happy cruisin yall. Ricky and Elaine

I'm not from New England, but I was close being in upstate NY and just a reasonable drive from Cape Cod. To me having lobster is the whole thing, red and steamy, sitting on a plate with some lemon slices and melted butter. I am really a claw man if the truth be told. Thumbs Up

I loved driving around new england, especially Maine, in my tractor trailer... I would park at a truck stop, call a cab, and have them take me to a good, not opulent, restaurant that serves lobster. Many of the restaurants were veritable mom and pop type restaurants but I was rarely disappointed in the lobster. A couple of them even churned their own butter that was then served melted with the lobster. That made an excellent meal practically sinful. No wonder I gained so much weight when I was travelling.

And let us not forget those great lobster rolls, best served at some roadside shack.

Dave and drlivingston, don't forget those little out of the way (roadside shacks) for the best fried clams and french fries as well when you are in New England!

We're going to have to get all of you up here for a real New England feast. We'll stop at a lobster shack for lunch, and then go to a clam bake in the evening. No bibs required, but we will need lots of napkins.

Only once was I on a ship that offered something similar to this. It was Regal Empress back in 2001. Our port of call that day was Portland, Maine, and we actually saw them load crates of live lobster. Right before dinner, the waiters paraded the lobsters, still live, around on platters. The lobsters were later delivered to our tables, with all the fixin's. Now that was a memorable meal.

Nope. Even that is not allowed. Maybe some leaves and twigs and a lecture about how worthless and evil human beings are.

They conveniently forget that we are part of nature too.

Ah yes LisaP, we New Englanders are truly blessed with the abundance of great, fresh seafood of many varieties; now, I just wish the price were more affordable. Although, the price for hard shell lobsters has finally come down to reasonable levels.

I've always bolstered to others on the quality and quantity of a cruise vacation compared to other vacations. That is how I've gotten 6 ppl to try cruising with us on 3 different cruises. How dare they try to diminish my expectations! Big Grin
I agree, you don't have to be a hourd about it...just an extra serving once in awhile. I forego the lobster (dislike seafood), so my DH orders an extra.

It's interesting with all the cutbacks, that the Oasis of the Seas will have a dining venue in the Boardwalk area called "Seafood Shack". I wonder what kind of seafood will be served there. It's a casual seafood restaurant, not just a Fish & Chips stand. No doubt it probably will have a surcharge.

I couldn't understand why a Canada and New England cruise on Celebrity did not have Maine Lobster with a stop in Portland and Bar Harbour. They say we'll have local dishes ! Had to get off the ship in run to the nearest place for a Lobster roll and fried clams (the real ones) not the awful strips they serve here in VA. Also had to do an excursion to get to a Losbter bake. In Maine lobster was $6 a pound compare to here it is $14.99 a lb. It is cheaper to get it fed ex'd here, a 3 1/2 pound jumbo..Merry Christmas to me !! happy dance

That's why. Smile

So, what kinds of local delicacies did they serve onboard?

We did not see any local seafood, I am from Rhode Island and now live in VA, so you know how much I miss fried clams and lobster !! I did have a cup of clam chowder one night on the ship!
I was thinking we were in Prince Edward Island and was looking for mussels "no deal"! We have decided to drive up to ME next summer and boy I will have fun eating !

Too bad, I have seen in the Maine papers lately that some towns near the ports where they bring in Lobstah have had them for sale fresh or cooked for $3.00 each as the price at the wholesale level has been so bad lately and the cost to go fishing has been out of sight..No breaks for the local (hard working) fishermen.

I think, after reading all this about Lobstah that I will need to get me some. Oh yes, clean them up and then bring on the butter for dipping. Yum Yum !!
