I am going to Haiti, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. When we are at these ports of call, is it safe to drink the water and eat the food? I've heard such bad things about drinking water in Mexico. So tell me what you think please! Thanks again happy dance

Why would you want to eat anywhere other than the ship? We always come back to the ship for lunch. If on an excursion, lunch and drinks are usually provided if it's an all day excursion. In Haiti, the food is brought from the ship—Labadee is RCCL's private peninsula.

Sure cheaper that way Sonny!

All these places will have bottled water available (for a price). We've never had a problem with the food in any of these places. Cozumel is one of our favorite places and we've been there many times on cruises and diving trips. Never had a problem.....ok ....maybe once Smile.

No problem with Grand Cayman or Cozumel but in Mexico I would drink bottled water & do not eat from street vendors ..
Restaurant are fine
With many ships in port daily why would they take a chance and make passengers sick!!!

I don't understand the point of going to other countries & not trying the food

Two places that we have eaten in Cozumel are Pancho's Backyard and Palmeros.

Palmeros has the best coconut ice cream! Pancho's Backyard was recommended by our tour guide. It is a really neat place, had good food, a gift shop, etc. I think you would really like it.

NADINE!!!!!! Big Grin Coconut ice cream at Palmeros is my favorite ice cream in the world, no kidding! In fact, had some last week! We made a special trip there just for some quacamole, margaritas and for dessert...you guessed it!

Also a fantastic place to eat other items on the menu and people watch.

We ate at a "kitchen" in Cozumel this year, a guide took us there. The food was unbelievable and 7 of us got REALLY FULL for about $32 on woodfire grilled chicken (and guac and onions and tortillas). It was, however, our first eating adventure in Mexico since getting a parasite on a cruise shore tour in 1994. It takes one a few years after an experience like that to get hungry in a foreign port again. The soft drinks and water were bottled. we had a good experience, we were away from the cruise port in a place I wouldn't have set foot in without a guide's recommendation--and it was fantastic. Apparently they have a Lobster platter for two in the evening for $30 that two adults have a hard time finishing. Don't know the name of the place--but I will be finding it again when we go back.

LHT28 gave you an excellent answer. If you drink bottled water and avoid street vendors you should have no problem.

I can't count the number of meals I have had in Latin America and I can't recall ever having a problem by following those two rules.
