Sonny, I never though I'd ever read a post from you on a ship that said you're ready to go home. Hope you get a burst of energy and enjoy the rest of your cruise.
Makes you remember when we were 20 something and could burn the candle at both ends all night and go out and do it again and again. And still be able to work the next day. I think my candle is now just a stub, I can't do it anymore either.
This cruise has really been an adventure, to say the least.
That's the problem! You were really supposed to be on Adventure of the Seas this week.
Welcome home. I'm sorry you missed the ports you did, but am glad to hear RCI is trying to "make nice." Did you book another cruise or buy a future cruise spot while onboard?
Hello from Racine, Wisconsin! It's 9 pm here but I'm still living the Barcelona time of 3 am. A total of 10 hours of air travel even makes the day seem longer. Just wanted to let you all know we had a safe trip home. Thanks for all the wishes and concerns. I think I'm done for today…I'll check in tomorrow sometime.
For those that wanted more information about the Navigator's stabilizer problem…there's not much more to tell that what you've already read about. The main concern was if the aft port stabilizer wasn't cut off, it could have broken off and hit one of the props. After anchoring about a 1/4 mile from the dock, we had to go into the bay area the next day were we anchored again. Here is was O.K. to cut off the stabilizer and let it fall to the ocean floor. If we had to stay on the river, a barge with a crane would have had to be brought in to rig the stabilizer and lift out of the water after being cut off. Who knows how long that would have taken. I watched the operation, but there was nothing to see but a small boat and diver above where the stabilizer is.
We didn't leave until about 3am the next morning. We averaged 20 knots to reach Barcelona by 9pm Friday night.
So the obvious next step is to get a new stabilizer added to the ship right? I assume that would require a dry dock visit? I wonder if they are going to have to cancel a cruise to get that done or if they will just live without it until the next scheduled dry dock.
Did they ever say what the problem with the stabilizer was?

Does anyone know when the next dry dock is scheduled? Bit of a long shot I know. We're doing the return Trans Atlantic tour in November. I can't believe Sonny does one of his first Trans Atlantic jaunts and breaks the ship. No babysitting duties for you in the future young man.

The stabilizer was actually broke and bent…that's why it couldn't be drawn back in. It must have encountered an extreme stress some how to cause it to be damaged. The seas weren't very rough at anytime during our crossing. The ship really doesn't need the stabilizer isn't really needed until the ship is ready for it's scheduled dry dock. A new stabilizer will be installed at that time.
These are the starboard stablizers on the Mariner which is identical to the Navigator. This picture should explain a lot of questions some people might have.
ohhh.. so there are 2 stabilzers on each side. I was thinking only one and therefore wondering what they would do if they encountered seas where they needed them. I guess they could just use the one pair. That would allow them to wait until dry dock and not ruin schedules.
I can't imagine what happended to bend it. Unless something broke in the retraction unit...
Maybe you hit an underwater UFO going through the Berumda triangle!

Welcome home Sonny. I know you and Esther are tired, but I'm sure you had a wonderful time. Even though there were some strange happenings on your cruise. I still think y'all need a 7 day Caribbean to recuperate. I'm glad the return was uneventful!
Welcome Home Sonny get some rest you'll need it for that next scheduled cruise. So did that make you want to stop cruising? LOL I am sure it didn't just joking.
Welcome home Sonny, hope your flight was as good as ours. The plane we were on was only one third full so we had no one sitting on either side of us,seemed like first class. We also were unable to find any ghosts in Ireland.Hope to see you an Esther again on another journey Casey
Hi there Casey! Our flight was full and we has a mother with a four month old baby sitting next to us. Esther ended holding the baby for a few hours because she felt sorry for the mother. How was it sleeping in haunted castles?
Hey Sonny, Where are the pics? I was hoping you had them up already. I have to live my cruising life vicariously through you. I see you already have booked a B2B.
