Hi all,

Can any frequent cruiser tell me what the situation with cabin allocation is. I've just tried booking and the travel agent told me I would need to pay extra if I wanted to pick my own cabin number, I am very nervous of being allocated on the day in case I am down too low and near to the engines. Is there any way around this...(without paying extra!)

thanks

I would check with a travel agent that specializes in cruises. I've taken several and always booked through Cruises Only - I have never been told I had to pay extra to choose my cabin. I wouldn't leave it to chance either - I once let someone else choose the rooms, which did end up being right near the engines, what a miserable, noisy cruise that was!

my friend booked with another travel agent and they too were told it would cost 200 euro extra to be told the cabin number in advance - awful

corkgirl,

Is this another example of the booking rules for Ireland being different than those for us in North America? It doesn't cost extra for us to pick a cabin. I wonder why things have to be different for you?

HI Dave,

Hmmm, very annoying indeed, is there anything I can do, as far as I am aware my friend rang royal caribbean and they said they couldnt give her a definite cabin number when booking through an agent, I book through an agent simply because the flights are not direct and accommodation needs to be booked. Im very peed off now!

anyone else had problems with booking cabin numbers?

Corkgirl, what is it you want to book. I can call the diamond plus desk and find out what options you have. I'd be more than happy to check it out for you. Seems to me you could book everything through RCCL. To me it sounds like the price that's less is for a guaranteed catagory cabin, which means you could end up with a much better cabin.

Hi Sonny,

I only need an inside cabin, and I would be happy on deck 8 or 9 as previously. I would be worried about waiting to be allocated on the day, yes it does say it might be a better cabin but somehow I dont think so!! I have visions of me and my boyfriend (who I have dragged along to this cruise) on top of the engines not being able to sleep!! Is this not an american thing or is it just new? I booked med last year with RCCL and no one mentioned this and they gave me my cabin number straight away. I would like to make my full booking before the weekend and have it over with!!

It sounds like the least expensive category is available only as a guarantee. If you want to choose your cabin, you have to move up to a higher category where you can actually get a cabin assignment.

It's typical that the lowest categories are guarantee only.

Corkgirl, inside cabins for catagory M or L on deck nine or ten are never in a guarantee category…you will have to pay more for a assigned cabin. The diamond plus desk gave me the London phone number and suggested calling for prices on cabins and airfare. This is the number they gave me: 44-1932-834-200. I hope this is of some help…

My partner and I went with a balcony guarantee on our first cruise. It was cheaper but I can't
remember how much less it cost. We were told that we wouldn't know which cabin we were in until the week of the cruise(so we had visions of obstructed views!)but the RCCL website posted our room number several weeks before we left. I suppose it depends on how quickly the cabins in that category fill up.
It was exactly what we wanted - several cabins from the front , near an elevator and nice and quiet . No complaints at all!

Hi Cork Girl - Limerick guy here :-) I'm just back from a week on board Freedom, I booked all flights and accomidation myself and the cruise directly on RC's website and i beleive it works out cheaper. We had a suite but we were able to pick our cabin driectly on the website when we paid the deposit.

Enjoy the cruise!!

We went the guarantee route once for insides and got two rooms on deck 10. We also knew people who got a balcony on a guaranteed inside. My agent indicated she has gotten a royal prominade inside on a guaranteed inside before. I think it is all luck of the draw.
