Hi,

A silly question I know. I have never been on a cruise before and am about to go on one, of Navigator of the Seas.

The cruise is primarily for rest after a very busy few months work.

If the ship is in a port for an entire day, do I have the option of staying on board?

If I stay on board do all the facilities/entertainment/restaurants still operate?

Many Thanks,
Jason

Hello Jason, and welcome to cruise-chat!

Absolutely, you can stay aboard the ship while in port. In fact, I often do this when my cruise goes to a port which I've visited before. Actually, staying aboard while the ship is in port is a good thing. The ship will be empty but they still have a couple bars open, the dining room and buffet will be open, and you essentially have the ship to yourself. Many of us savvy cruisers look forward to staying on the ship during a port day! It is a great time to be at the pools.

I agree Dave, stayiing aboard on a port day is so nice and restful. Although there are things to do, and the pools are almost empty.
Jason I hope you will enjoy yourself, don't worry about anything just go with the flow and you will be hooked!! Wink

You can absolutely stay on board all day if you want. The times the recreational facilities (such as the pool) are open may change from time to time, so check your cruise compass (this will be in your stateroom each evening for the next day's port of call), and it will list the hours of operation for the pool and restaurants and bars. However, I don't believe the shops will be open while the ship is in port.

I've said this in other posts, and I'll say it here, just relax and have fun! I know when I went on my cruise on the Majesty I had lots of fun and it was great to just kick back and relax by the pool and do other things after working hard at a new job for ten months at the time I took my cruise.
