Hi, I am going on my first Criuse in June 2008. Please culd someone give me som advice on how to get to the folllowing placs by foot/bus/train or would it be best to book excusions directly with the cruise company?
In Naples I think it is unwise to wander about alone I hired a taxi last year and went first to Pompeii (amazing) and then to Mount Vesuvius It cost 120 euro at the time and was cheaper (as there were 2 of us0 than the ship excursions others took the ferry to Capri -the ship berths right next to the ferry terminal This is much cheaper than going via an excusion As to Civitavechia there is no need to pay silly prices to go to Rome Simply take the courtesy bus to the port gates and walk straight ahead to the station 200 or 300 yards ahead A return ticket cost about 16 Euro and there were frequent trains After buying the ticket remember to validate it by putting it in the machine just before the platform The ship excursions are not only much more expensive but also worse because the coaches get stuck in traffic and it can take an hour and a half each way Hope this helps and that you enjoy your cruise (I will be amazed if you don't!)
