Has anyone visited La Spezia. Is there a lot to do there or is it easy to catch a train into the Cinque Terre or to Florence or Pisa

Welcome to cruise-chat.

It is has been over 25 years since I've been there. It is a beautiful town. If I recall correctly trains from La Spezia go to Pisa and then we took another train from Pisa to Florence - each train ride being an hour or so, so plan on a couple hours to get to Florence. Of course things may have changed over the years.

Cinque Terre is but minutes away from La Spezia Centrale. As Dave said, it is about an hour to Pisa and another hour to Florence.

Is the train station near the port or do we have to get a taxi?

Been many, many years since I've been through there. Quick look at maps.google.com refreshed the cells a bit. I'd take a cab, especially if you are going on to Pisa or Florence.

I don't know where your ship will be, but I seem to recall it being about a mile walk from where we were to the train station. I'd recommend a taxi.
