I've done the train from CIV to Rome before, got off at St Peters, and it was quite easy. We returned from Termini

Question 1) On return going FROM Rome to CIV port, do you have to leave from Termini or can you leave from St. Peters?

Question 2) The excellent post on this site says "The best ticket to buy is the B.I.R.G., as it will allow you to have unlimited train for 24 hours and also includes unlimited use of the underground in Rome, as well as the city buses. The cost per person as of September, 2005 was 9 euro round-trip" -- still valid as roundtrip? --can get on at St Peters or Termini?

Thank you!

The BIRG ticket is actually issued to cover an entire zone as opposed to a specific train station. Hence, it would work from any of Rome's stations. However, make sure you do your homework on the train schedules because it can sometimes be difficult to get a good timetable that covers stations other than the main Termini. I believe the trains stop at the S. Pietro station about 20 min before it gets to the main Termini, but we have never used that S. Pietro station and have not the foggiest idea of its exact location.

To get you pointed in the right direction:
(1) go to www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html
(2) Put in Rome as your departure station (this will get all trains departing from Rome)
(3) Put in Civitavecchia as your arrival station
(4) From the list, pick a train near your desired time and click on 'Details'.
(5) Click on the train number to get the detailed schedule for that train. It will show arrival/departure time if that train hits your desired schedule.

Yes, you can take the train from San Pietro station back to CIV. We visited Rome last year on Voyager. We rode from CIV into Termini - saw some sites making our way over to the Vatican - then took the train from San Pietro (walking distance from Vatican) back to CIV.

The BIRG ticket is good for all travel in Rome/CIV. It was valid for the trip to Rome, around Rome on the subway system and back to CIV. Hope that helps.
