Our Royal Caribbean cruise docks in Civitavechia in the morning and we must make a 2:30 flight to the States. What is the best/economical way to get from the ship to the airport on time?

The "best" and the "most economical" are not the same in this case. The best would be to take the cruise transfer. A taxi/car would be very expensive.

The most economical way is to do it by train (train into Rome and then back out to the airport)

Assuming you got off the ship early you would have time to take the train but dragging your luggage on and off two trains and then through the airport.. the best way it isn't

Thank you for the information. I wonder what the cruise (Royal Caribbean) charges for the transfer?

Call and find out. We took the transfer (on Carnival) only in the one direction (ship to airport) as we stayed in Rome before the cruise and therefore took the train from the airport into Rome. I don't think it was too expensive. At least not compared to the $300 a taxi would want to charge.

Thanks. Anything sounds better than $300 taxi ride.

I contacted a limo service I found on the internet. They had a driver with a small van meet us at the dock. He had a sign with our name and I found him with no porblem. Cost was 100 euros total for four people with two large suitcases each little less than the Cruise ship transfer, but We did not have to ride on a bus so it was worth it.

IF I had to do it over I would fly to Italy, take the Express train into Rome, and take train to port. Keep in mind train arrives in Rome on one side of station and you have to walk to the other side to of the station to get the train to the port. Once your at the port train station its a short walk from the station to the port bus shuttle stop. Port shuttle bs is free to your ship.

On return I would take train from port to Rome, stay a few days in Rome and then take express train to Airport.

Hi Ildi,

All lines are pretty comparable in terms of cost for transfer. Princess was charging $70 per person one way ship to Rome Airport FUmicilli (sp?). If you are travelling light, and I mean light, you can take the train to termini then switch and take another train to airport. Hassle hass

Hi Ildi,

All lines are pretty comparable in terms of cost for transfer. Princess was charging $70 per person one way ship to Rome Airport FUmicilli (sp?). If you are travelling light, and I mean light, you can take the train to termini then switch and take another train to airport. Hassle hassle. I would never do it again. We did it on the way to the ship and had loads of time. There are no elevators at the Civitavvechia station - stairs stairs stairs mega hassle if you have heavy suitcases. If you can get a cheap cab $100 euros for two people. Do it, but again, it is 1.5 hours from the ship to airport by cab and the hassle of traffice and everything else. We personally build the cost of these transfers now into our overall cruise cost. Cheers.
