We are in the process of finalizing an independent tour in St Petersburg for 6/25 & 6/26 2007. We have talked with Alla, DenRus and Red October. Their prices are fairly comparable. We have planned a full 2 day tour including all the sites that 2 day cruise ships tour include, plus Catherine Palace, metro stations, time to stroll in the city and take the canal tour. And more time at most each stop. We also have the option of adding an evening venue. We are planning on probably having a party of 8 (our party of 4 and 4 others) which puts the price less than the 2 day ship tour with bus loads of people. For our tour, the price break with the ship was around 5 people. Plus we get early admission to 2 of the venues. For us, Alla has been the most responsive to our wishes so we are planning on a tour with her company. Definitely plan an independent tour - you can find others to join if you want to work the price down. If you want, DenRus does the identical tour to the ship's 2 day tour on a bus of 15-30 people for about $100 less than the ship's.

The smartest thing we did when going to St Petersburg on the Constellation last June was to book a private tour thru Denrus, it was my husband and myself and the driver and our tour guide, fabulous...we saw more in 2 days than any tour bus on the ship could provide. We were so lucky to have found out about Denrus before we went, we even had lunch on both days in places only the locals go. We had lunch one day at Podvorie, which was Pushkin's favorite place to eat, it was wonderful. I could spend hours telling you all we saw from 8am to 6pm on both days. Don't even hesitate, if you get Nelly Melnikova you are blessed !

We have booked an independent 2 day tour with Alla in St Petersburg 6/25 & 6/26/2007. We are sailing on the Star Princess 6/21 from Copenhagen. We have a group of 6 and are looking for another 2 who would like to join us. Essentially the tour covers all the Princess venues plus Catherine Palace. Evening venues can be arranged also. We've been on a private tour with Anastasia Company http://www.anastasiaworld.com. That was wonderful. Very personal and flexible. We believe it was the best choice.

St. Petersburg is very nice. If you do a tour by your own you need a group visa.

We have been trying to contact Alla to ask them some questions about touring St. Petersburg and all we get are canned non-responsive E-mail responses. Has anybody actually talked to a live person in the last few weeks.
