Our cruise ends in Monte Carlo in three weeks. Would like to store luggage somewhere after disembarking, check out Monte Carlo a few hours (possibly on foot) and then take train to Nice for a 3 p.m. flight. Anyone know how close the train is to Monte Carlo port or how close the train goes to the Nice airport. Any suggestions or information will be appreciated
With luggage, you will definitely need to grab a taxi to the Monte Carlo train station (it is a long hike) but the fare should be reasonable from anywhere inside Monte Carlo. You would actually take the train past Nice to the Nice Cote d'Azur Airport stop. Some of the cruise lines now run luggage services where you can check your luggage on-board and it goes direct to the airport. If they have this option on your ship, that is going to be your best bet. Otherwise, I have no idea where you could check your luggage for the day. Keep in mind that you would want to get to the airport by 1, and you need a little time to get to the train station on Monte Carlo, and than get from the airport train station to the terminal. Not much opens in Monte Carlo before 9, so your time there is really going to be limited.
Thanks a million, Hank, for the great advice! We are sailing on Regent Seven Seas Navigator. Last year we sailed on the same ship out of Venice ending up in Athens and RSSC arranged transfers back to the airport. I believe they may do the same this year but it is not offered in advance....only once we are onboard. Just checking on all my options. After your good advice, if we have to take the train on our own, we may just get to Nice ASAP and check out Nice if time allows. Thanks again!
RSSC is a real "class act" company, so you can be sure they will offer some kind of airport transport. But, the real question will be at what price? You also should be aware that the Nice train station is not the same stop as the airport (Nice comes first).
