This will be our first Mediterranean cruise and have few questions about alternative shore excursions via our ports of call. We are fairly independent travelers and therefore comfortable on our own. Having been to Rome and Florence in the past, we are most curious to know if any of you have suggestions for unique day trips around the ports of Livorno and Civiavecchia, Italy. With regard to Livorno, we'll be there on a Monday (not sure what the cruise line was thinking as most museums and restaurants are closed in Florence), but would like to know if you recommend Lucca over Pisa or another unique destination. We are very comfortable renting a car and using the trains. If you are up for more advise, other ports include: Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, and both Calvia and Bastia in Corsica. Any and all recommendations are greatly appreciated as this is a very special trip for us! Thank you.

You could give Pisa a passing glance and then concentrate on Lucca. Truly a beautiful place. Trains to and from are no problem however you may have to walk a bit from the station into town. Still, no problem.
