I will be taking a transatlantic cruise next spring, with my mother. One of our ports is Tenerife Canary Islands, I can't find much information on this port as far as getting around on our own or if one of the ship's shore excursions be the better way to go. Can anyone help? This will be a first time trip to Europe, but not a first time cruise. I'm very very excited! Thanks for any help.

might help to show you the sites available. Did you google Tenerife? I had over 34 millions hits through google. Wish I could give you a first hand account, but haven't had the privilege of being there. I'm sure one of our members has, and hopefully they'll see your post. we just came back from a transatlantic with the Navigator otS and our first port was Santa Cruz, Tenerife. We took a rental car and drove to the Teide (highest mountain in Spain) and to Puerto de la Cruz, cost about 40 Euros (www.cicar.com). It's a nice drive with a lot to see.

We were lucky to get one of the cars, it's better to reserve in advance, they are directly located at the port.
